How do you wash silk?

All blouses and silk garments from Maja Roos are made from a blend of 30% silk and 70% viscose. This blend results in our clothes being not quite as delicate as if they were made of 100% silk. It also means that the garments can be machine washed at 30°C on a delicate cycle, with a mild and enzyme-free detergent. Today, there are several good enzyme-free detergents on the market specially designed for silk, which help the garments maintain the fine luster and shine that silk has. Another trick to be even gentler on silk garments is to put them in a laundry bag or pillowcase so that the garments do not come into direct contact with the washing drum when you wash them. Additionally, you should not use fabric softener when washing silk.

I always use Washologi's delicate detergent when washing my silk garments, as it gives great results and smells wonderful. Even Y3 liquid delicate detergent, which can be found in grocery stores, is enzyme-free and gentle on silk.

I also recommend always airing silk clothes after use and letting them hang freely on a hanger when not in use. Silk is a material that often stays fresh for a long time, so you don't need to wash your silk garments too often.

Can silk be ironed?

All silk garments from Maja Roos can be ironed gently on low heat with an iron or steamed with a steamer. Be careful that the steamer does not drip dirt or water droplets, as it easily does if it is not descaled. Also, be sure to turn the garments inside out so you iron on their matte side.

When I'm traveling, I always roll up my silk clothes when packing instead of folding them. This way, I minimize wrinkles and creases!

Take care, Maja
